The people of the Republic of Uzbekistan elected a new President following the death of President Islam Karimov. Born on July 24, 1957, Shavkat Miromonovich Mirziyoyev was elected the new President, with 88.6% of the votes. The transition is a natural succession since he held the position of Prime Minister from 2003 to 2016.
